Away - Sutton Coldfield 21.9.24

Sun, 22 Sep 2024, 15:52

Sutton Coldfield away was the venue for our third consecutive away game of the season.

The game got underway, and it was very apparent very quickly the pitch was on the small side.  The game was very congested in midfield with the amount of players on the smaller pitch.

We defended well with Peyton, Lacey & Erin starting the game well and supporting the midfield when possible.  Bella had a great game in goal, using her area well and using her improved drop kicks to our advantage when needed.

Midfield was a constant battle, but Emma & Mimi worked tirelessly in the centre and Elysia, Mona and Gracie on the wings.  Much more difficult to get our wingers in play this week due to the short width of the pitch. Layla worked her socks off in the first half as the lone striker and led the line well.

Second half we tried to switch things up a little with pushing Gracie as our striker to freshen up our approach.  This nearly paid dividends when Gracie turned her markers superbly and burst into the area on the just not get clean contact on the shot.  Great piece of skill !

With only one sub and Elyisa taking a knock the team showed excellent fitness and determination. Half time message was “if we cant win it, we don’t loose it “

Third clean sheet in three games, and unbeaten in all our away games too.  Just need to add some goals to our play moving forward.

POM – Bella – good use of area & improved kicking & 3rd clean sheet of the season

PPOM – Erin – stood up to the challenge, provided good throw ins and made some good interceptions

To be honest all players were my POM putting in a real shift with one sub on a hot day against a competitive opponent.
