AWAY - U12's Lionesses vs Counden Court - U12 Open Cup_2024 - 2025 (1st Round)

AWAY - U12's Lionesses vs Counden Court - U12 Open Cup_2024 - 2025 (1st Round)

4th Game of the season away from home took us to Counden Court in the Open Club with the girls looking to retain their unbeaten start to the season.

A slight change in formation was set to get us on the front foot from the off, creating more space in the middle of the park and trying to use the space in behind the opponents defence.

The girls didn’t disappoint dominating the play from the start .

Mayanna started at right back replacing Erin who wasn’t available and started confidently and made some really good tackles early on, and also took some great throw ins.

The defence was looking strong and really wanted to continue their amazing start to the season with zero goals conceded.   Peyton and Lacey were in full control of the defence alongside Mayanna which allowed our midfield 3 of Emma, Sophia and Mimi take the game to the opposition.

Gracie started as striker with Layla and both were making good runs and causing the opponents lots to think about.

The Counden keeper was in fine form keeping the score at 0-0 until Layla started the scoring with a tidy right foot finish.

Emma scored the second with a rocket of a finish after some tidy approach play from our midfield.

Sophia was causing all sorts of problems for the Counden left back and managed to get some great balls across on many occasions.  Mimi was causing problems down the left-hand side too and creating lots of problems for the opponents defence. Mimi then changed to play as striker with Layla with Mona taking up the left midfield role.

Sophia scored our third goal with a high shot from the right which managed to sail in above the Counden keepers reach, great finish !

Half time arrived and the message was not to take our foot off the gas.

The Counden keeper made at least 4 great saves in the second half as we continued to dominate the play. We played some really neat intelligent football in the second half but didn’t manage to finish these great moves and get past the in-form keeper.

Captain Peyton was absolutely bossing the defence and nearly scored an absolute worldy with a long mazy run from the back only to be thwarted by a clearance off the line .

A few players moved around positions during the second half which was good to see.  Gracie looking nice and composed at right back, Layla had some game time on right midfield and Mayanna played as striker.

With 15 minutes left Captain P and Emma swapped positions with P moving into central midfield. Peyton is a real competitor and has led the team by example, we were all delighted when she managed to slot home our fourth and final goal of the game. Well done Peyton :)

So, the unbeaten start continues as does the zero goals conceded ! Let’s see if we can keep it up next week. Credit to Bella who kept her concentration today when at times didn’t have a great deal to do.

Stratford Town at home in the next round of the Cup ( date tbc as I believe Stratford have requested a no game weekend due to half term )

Great work from ALL players and massive thanks to the parents cheering us on from the sidelines 😊
