AWAY - U12's Lionesses vs Leam Lions DH

Tue, 19 Nov 2024, 16:44

Sat, 16 Nov 2024, 10:00

Another away game for the U12 Lionesses today but a short trip to Harbury Lane to play Leam Lions DH.

Perfect conditions for a game of football.

After quite a few players away last week we had more numbers available this week but was without our super keeper Bella due to illness.  Two players put their hands up during our pre-match chat and said they were happy to play in goal.  Erin & Peyton both did really well stepping in for Bella, Erin was our goalie for the first half and Peyton for the second.

We discussed a game plan to minimize the risk to our stand in keepers before the match, and the girls took on this plan and it really helped take the pressure off Erin particularly in the first half and P in the second.  Well done girls and great listening.

We started the game on the front foot which was part of the plan, turning the Leam defence when we could so they had the majority of defending to do. Mona started the game at right back and had a great game throughout, feeding some nice passes down the right-hand side to get us up the pitch.

Emma was dictating the play in the centre of midfield, and with Scarlett hugging the touchline on the right we were keen to try and get the ball to her behind the full back to get crosses in. This move was part of our first goal which was pleasing to see, Scarlett crossed a lovely ball which broke to Emma who then squared it for Layla to score with her right foot on the turn.

Leam equalised after a free kick was given away and the shot was put in the net from a rebound in the box.

The girls continued to push for the next goal and a strong run from Elysia resulted in her cross being put into the net for an own goal. Elysia showed good strength running down the wing to get the cross in which was great to see.

Half time came and we discussed that we needed the same again.

The girls delivered just that and Mimi capped off a great individual performance with a fine left foot shot into the goal which made the final score 1 – 3.

Top work by everyone today and great team effort to get us back on winning ways.  Gracie again played really well in different positions and was very unlucky to have a goal disallowed for offside, Erin player her part second half when playing out, Scarlet offered great width and nice footwork on the right wing, Peyton read the game beautifully first half in the centre of defence, Emma, Elysia, Mimi all performed well in midfield and Layla worked tirelessly up top too !

POM – Lacey – strong – dominant – a real leaders performance today

PPOM – Erin & Peyton for stepping up and taking on the gloves between them

GOALS – Layla – OG & Mimi
